Onboarding Questionnaire

The onboarding questionnaire is a short quizz that captures your writing style preferences. It takes about 2 minutes and gives Lunatic AI enough data to generate your first voice profile — no LinkedIn account required.

Key Takeaways
  • 5 questions covering tone, length, perspective, avoidances, and background
  • Takes about 2 minutes to complete
  • Enough on its own for a usable voice profile
  • Can be retaken anytime from the Preferences tab
  • LinkedIn data is optional but improves voice quality when combined

What are the 5 questions?

Each question targets a different dimension of your writing style. Here's what they ask and why:

1. Voice Fit

Single-select with an "Other" option.

Picks the overall tone of your writing. Options: Straightforward, Conversational, Polished, Playful, Provocative, Calm & measured. If none of these fit, type your own.

This is the broadest stroke. A "Conversational" voice and a "Polished" voice produce noticeably different drafts even when everything else is identical.

2. Length Preference

Single-select.

How long do your posts tend to be? Options: Short & punchy, Medium skimmable, Longer thoughtful, Depends on the idea.

"Depends on the idea" tells the AI to match length to the content rather than defaulting to a fixed target. The other options set a consistent baseline.

3. Perspective

Single-select with an "Other" option.

What angle do you write from? Options: Builder/operator, Expert/specialist, Learner/explorer, Leader/decision-maker, Advisor/mentor.

A builder writing about hiring decisions sounds different from an advisor writing about the same topic. This shapes the framing, not just the words.

4. Avoidances

Multi-select. Optional — you can skip this.

Things you don't want in your posts. Options: Buzzwords, Salesy tone, Corporate voice, Emojis, Controversy, Long posts.

Select as many or as few as you want. If nothing bothers you, skip it entirely. These act as guardrails — the AI actively steers away from whatever you flag here.

5. Anything Else

Free-text. Optional.

Open field for anything that helps the AI understand you better. Profession, experience, interests, hobbies, industry context. A sentence or two is plenty, but write as much as you want.

The more specific you are, the better. "B2B SaaS founder, 10 years in developer tools, obsessed with clear documentation" gives the AI much more to work with than "tech industry."

Do I need LinkedIn data too?

No. The questionnaire alone is enough to generate a voice profile and start creating posts.

LinkedIn data enriches the voice by adding your real writing patterns — how you actually structure posts, the vocabulary you use, the hooks you tend to open with. But it's entirely optional.

Both together produce the richest voice profile. The questionnaire captures your intent. LinkedIn captures your execution. The AI merges both into a single profile.

The questionnaire is optional if you sync your LinkedIn profile with enough posts. But both together produce the richest voice profile.

Can I retake the questionnaire?

Yes. Open the Preferences tab on your profile page, and you'll see your current questionnaire status with an option to retake it. Your previous answers are replaced with the new ones.

After retaking, regenerate your voice from the Voice tab to apply the updated answers. The old voice version stays in your history — regeneration creates a new version, not a replacement.

How do my answers affect content generation?

Your questionnaire answers are stored on your profile and used during voice generation. The AI reads them alongside any LinkedIn data to build the voice profile text.

Answers are snapshot at the time you submit them — the exact question text and your exact response are preserved even if the questionnaire changes later. This means your voice profile always reflects what you actually answered, not a reinterpreted version.

The voice profile, not the raw questionnaire answers, is what shapes post generation. So the path is: answers → voice profile → posts. Editing your voice profile directly has the same effect as changing your questionnaire answers and regenerating.
